Prime Minister’s Official Visit to The People’s Republic of China


At the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Wen Jiabao, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will pay an official visit to the people’s Republic of China from 22-27 June, 2003.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will hold official talks with Premier Wen Jiabao and will have separate meetings with their Excellencies President Hu Jintao, Chairman Jiang Zenim of the Central Military Commission, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress and Vice President Zeng Qinghong of the People’s Republic of China.

During his visit, Prime Minister Vajpayee is expected to hold wide-ranging discussions with the new Chinese leadership. A number of agreements/MOUs are expected to be signed during the visit.

A high level delegation of Indian business and industry will visit China in conjunction with the Prime Minister’s visit. Prime Minister will address a joint India-China business meeting in Beijing.

Prime minister will also visit Luoyang in Henan province and Shanghai.

Prime Minister Vajpayee’s visit will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the People’s Republic of China in almost ten years. The visit is part of the renewed process of high level exchanges between India and China that was initiated in May/June 2000 with the visit of then President K.R. Narayanan. The visit is expected to contribute to developing trust, understanding and confidence between India and the People’s Republic of China.
