Embassy of India, Beijing felicitates Shri Abhinav Bindra, India’s first individual Gold medallist at the Beijing Olympics 2008 (Aug 12, 2008)

 

Shri Abhinav Bindra, India’s first individual Gold Medallist (Men’s 10 m Air Rifle event) at Beijing Olympics 2008, was warmly felicitated at a function organized by the Embassy at the India House lawns on the evening of Aug 12, 2008. On the occasion, the Ambassador of India to China, H.E. Mrs. Nirupama Rao, congratulated Shri Bindra for his pioneering achievemnent and hoped that his victory will serve as an inspiring example for all other youngsters of the nation in the future. She also wished Shri Bindra and the rest of the Indian Olympic contingent the very best  in the remaining events as well as for future competitions so as to bring greater glory to India.

 

Shri Bindra thanked the Ambassador and the Embassy for the warm welcome accorded to him and said that he was overwhelmed by the overall reponse after his medal. Shri Bindra mentioned that he would do his best in the future to get more awards for the country.   The gathered audience were able to see the Olympic Gold Medal won by Shri Bindra who had thoughtfully brought the award along to show to his compatriots. 

 

The ceremony was attended by all the officials of the Embassy (and their family members), members of the Indian Press in Beijing and a few members of the local Indian community.
