A delegation led by Secretary, AYUSH
(Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha & Homeopathy), Ministry of
Health & Family Welfare (MoH&FW), Govt. of India, Smt. Anita Das,
visited China
from July 4 -7, 2008. The visit took place under the framework of the MoU on
Cooperation in Traditional Medicine signed between MoH&FW and Chinese State
Administration on Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM), signed in January 2008
during the visit of Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to China.
2. During their
visit to Beijing, the Indian delegation held
official discussions with SATCM and visited the Chinese
Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences
(CACMS) [a premier academic and R&D institution of TCM in China] as well as the production facility of
Tong Reng Tang , the largest TCM commercial enterprise in China. The delegation also visited Shanghai, where they
visited Shu Guang TCM hospital and Shanghai University of TCM.
3. In discussions
held during the visit of Secretary (AYUSH) to China, both sides agreed to intensify
the momentum of bilateral cooperation in traditional medicine. The current
visit, the first of its kind, laid down the contours of future regular interactions.
Both sides suggested ways and methods to enhance mutual understanding of their
ancient systems of traditional medicine. Nodal agencies have been identified on
either side to work out the action plans and timetables. Chinese Vice-Minister
of Health & Commissioner, SATCM, Dr. Wang Guoqiang would lead a delegation
to India in 2009 with the aim of further deepening cooperation in this field.
