Events : April 2010
On behalf of the Embassy of India, please accept our greetings and best wishes of the Chinese New Year! We hope you will enjoy our activities this festive season. The following are our activities in Apr 2010:

I. Documentary : “Through a Lens Clearly”
[Apr 13 – Tuesday, 1730 hrs]
This 30 minutes documentary (in English) explores the unity and diversity of India through the eyes of a famous Indian photographer, Mr. Raghu Rai. The film brings out the unique multi-lingual, multi-religious multi-cultural character of India. |

II. Photo-poster Exhibition : “Dances of India”
[Exhibition period – Apr 19 - 23 , 1000 – 1700 hrs daily]
This photo-poster exhibition explains the many dance forms of Indian culture. Indian culture is not only known for its many classical dance forms but also its regional as well as its folk traditions. |

III. Lecture : “Religion in Ancient India”
[ Apr 23 –, 1730 hrs]
Prof. Ge Weijun, is a former CASS scholar who has studied ancient Indian culture and society. He has published many articles on the theme of ancient India. His brief profile is below. This 45 minute talk shall be in Chinese. |

V. Film show : “Chalte Chalte” (…While walking…)
[Apr 26 – Monday, 1630 hrs]

VI. Documentary Show: “Cinema with a Purpose”
[Apr 29 – Thurs , 1715 hrs]
This 30 minute documentary in English gives an overview of the thriving regional cinema in India. Apart from the well-known Bollywood, regional cinema accounts for 70 percent of all films made in India. |

Profiles
Born in Jiangning, Jiangsu province in 1942, GE Weijun graduated from Graduate School, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences in 1982 and served as an researcher until retirement in Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. He is engaged mainly in the studies of Indology and his articles cover a wide range, which include Do Not Confuse Law of Asoka with Buddhist Doctrine, Religious Philosophy of Ancient India Obstructs the Establishment of History, On Xuanzang’s Translation of Heart Sutra, On Zhiyi’s Two Misinterpretations, Yanfu’s Translation and Kumarajiva’s Translation, Probe into the Origin of Karma Reward Theory, and Similarities and Differences between Ancient Hinduism and Buddhism in Benefaction Concept. In addition, he was also involved in the Chinese translation of the Indian Ancient Sanskrit epic Mahabharata and the composition of Indian Civilizations and acted as the standing deputy editor-in-chief in compiling the Dictionary of South-Asia.
